What is heartstopper?

The story of Heartstopper centers around Charlie Spring, an openly gay teenager attending
an all-boys grammar school. Charlie is anxious and high-strung,but he begins to let go of some of
his inhibitions once he develops a friendship with school rugby player, Nick Nelson.
Nick is kind, easy-going, and well, straight. Or so Charlie thinks. As Charlie’s feelings for
Nick start to grow past just a Platonic friendship,
he becomes more and more convinced that their relationship will never be anything more than just being friends. But Nick might just be harboring
a secret crush of his own, and together they will discover that love can often be found in the most unlikely places.

What Heartstopper means to teens today

It is very important nowadays to have representation like this for LGBTQ+ teens. It can help teens feel seen and
have something to relate to and to show what teens in the LGBTQ+ community go through. Especially since there are
still a lot of homophobic, transphobic people out there that threaten and hurt queer people just because they are
not the same. I feel this is such an important book to have out there and since in the story Charlie also struggles
with and eating disorder and really shows how it can affect a persons everyday life and people around them.
And I as a part of the LGBTQ+ community love how Alice has made a book on issues that happen when you are outed and
how people would react how there is supportive and unsupportive people. that is how Alice Oseman writing and creating
this series is so important for young queer people.
